Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

Playful map art!

Secession Art & Design's virtual gallery is transforming for our Spring Art Pop-Up on April 25-28. Our friend Queeny Lu is joining us with her company Traveling Calligraphy with a collection of hand-drawn maps. For the event she is creating a Bernal Map, but for now, you can scoop up her SF, Bay Area, and California prints.

I took a road trip with my family to LA to celebrate my little one's 5th birthday. I had forgotten the simple pleasures of driving for endless hours, playing games, singing along to music mixes, and experiencing the open road. I remember my car adventures when I was younger, before cell phones and the Internet, sitting with a large printed map and driving for the sake of bonding and adventure.

So many memories are created during road trips. My favorite moment (besides an epic theme park day) on this trip was my son falling asleep at dinner while I held his head up to keep him from falling into his bowl. The laughter will last with me for a lifetime.

Which map speaks to you and reminds you of the places you have traveled, or (for locals) the neighborhoods that you have explored?

Happy Collecting,
