Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

Art inspired by nature! SF Pop-up May 4-7

I moved from San Francisco about a year ago, to a home in Sonoma County between a farm and a small winery. The epic rains this year have everything in bloom! Every time I walk outside, I hear a symphony of birds and I'm delighted by the first roses.

When I am curating a show, I'm always keeping an eye out for art that captures the moment when the day feels perfect. I look forward to bringing a little bit of the country to SF for the pop-up!

Hilary Williams's painting features brilliant skies, oak trees, and local hikes. I can feel the calm of walking this path through her mixed media of acrylic and printmaking. Shannon Amidon brings the magic by capturing small natural moments and adding unique materials like crushed mother-of-pearl to her encaustic. Rachel Perls's dahlias in oil paints remind me of adventuring with my son to The Happy Dahila Farm in Petaluma. Each painting is so realistic that you feel like you can smell their fragrance and feel the dew on the petals. Olena McMurtrey’s spring blooms are whimsical and abstract.

I am envisioning your walls with this curation. This is a great way to bring nature indoors and capture these moments forever.
