Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

 

Shop art for my birthday week!

I turn 45 this week. I feel thankful for this life adventure, my family, and our community. To celebrate my birthday week, I would love it if you would shop our art, clothing, or jewelry online. For my special day, I am headed to the ocean with my family for a couple of days of dreaming, stargazing, and soaking up every cuddle I can get from Luca.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 15th Anniversary Pop-up. It was such a powerful way to see so many of you in person. You made me cry and laugh with your stories of how Secession has touched your life.

To that end, I have exciting news! I've decided to rent 307 Cortland for a holiday event, happening November 17-20. Save the dates, and donate to our fundraising sponsor campaign. Excited for this next curation!

Phillip Hua’s work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and art fairs nationally and internationally. His work has been featured by Art Practical, The San Francisco Chronicle, SFWeekly, California Home + Design magazine, White Hot Magazine of Contemporary Art, Huffington Post, Interior Design magazine, and 7x7 magazine, among others.

Phillip says, "I create photomontages that interweave images of nature celebrated against a backdrop of stock indexes from financial newspapers. The juxtaposition of nature and commerce places these values vying for attention in the same space. After digitally manipulating composited photos, I create prints that I handwork on rice paper. These prints are then scanned in, reconfigured, then printed with UV cured acrylic ink on Acrylite and backed with a wooden panel gilded in gold metal leaf.."

Born in Mexico City and working in San Francisco, Stephanie is a self-taught artist who began her artistic career in 2011. Art to Stephanie is a pure form of communication where she finds meaning in using color and symbolism to express feelings. She achieves an interactive lenticular effect by manipulating paint to create the illusion of depth, or the ability to change and move as the image is viewed from different angles. Stephanie wants the viewer to enter the painting, discover objects within it and come back stimulated by the marginal space between the depiction of nature and abstract imagery.

Ana Carol Pesce-Imlay was born in Sao Paolo Brazil but spent most of her early life in the countryside of Botucatu. Influenced by her grandfather who was a graphic designer and illustrator, drawing became a very important part of her life. She currently resides in San Juan Capistrano working as a freelance painter and designer.  Ana Carol is most influenced by old botanical prints, Japanese patterns and works by Mary Delany, Claude Monet, Alphonse Mucha, Charles R. Mackintosh and Os Gêmeos.
