Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

Art opening & book launch this Friday, February 8, 6-9pm

Secession Art & Design is honored to host Into Light, our new show featuring Silvi AlcivarBianca Levan, and Leslie Morgan, three women using experimental mediums to explore themes of life, the unexpected, and nature.

Silvi is revisiting scratchboard, a material from her youth that allows her to scratch away from a dark surface to reveal the white negative. Bianca hand-cuts her art from a black piece of paper, transforming patience and thought into an intricate scene. Leslie creates monoprints of sea creatures that, when the lights turn out, glow in the dark. Each of these women approaches their work as a meditative experience to reveal beauty out of nothing.

Also joining us will be author Shannon Weber for the launch of her book Show Up Hard: A Road Map for Helpers in Crisis. Learn more about how you can thrive at the intersection of empathy & resilience. Signed books will be available for sale.
