Secession Art & Design Blog

Secession Art & Design opened our Bernal Heights location in August of 2007, and has since grown to represent over 50 independent artists and designers. Our retail location is a gallery, boutique, and workspace combined, creating an untraditional storefront that allows customers to experience curated shows by owner, Eden Stein, and see the process of art being made in-house by Heather Robinson.

Local makers that can make you laugh, cry or both

Shop our current collection Tuesday-Sunday 12-7

Secession Art & Design loves that we can make people laugh when they read a t-shirt by Studio Nico. Cry when they are moved by a poem by Silvi Alcivar. Find peace in a photograph by Donald Kinney. These moments with customers at the gallery are really special and treasured. The unexpected fuels my passion to own a small business in San Francisco. I could not do this without you.

Stop by soon and see what moves you. You may find yourself taking home art, clothing, or jewelry by one of our talented makers.

T-shirt by Studio Nico | “peace in the morning” by Donald Kinney

sometimes peace comes
shining even brighter,
like moon on water
after nights and nights
of too much cloud.
listen to the hearts
that want only to know the border
of each other’s compassion,
the colors you call home,
the weapons we know as words.
if you think it’s just a dream,
ask the stars to verify the moon,
especially that bright side
shining even brighter
when your heart and hope
and all the dark make peace.
