| Spring Forward at Secession Art and Design
Show: March 30 - May 30, 2010 | Designer Trunk Show: Friday, April 16, 12-6pm, Opening Reception: 6:30-9:30PM Mission/Bernal Heights’ gallery boutique announces spring show and special designer trunk show San Francisco, Calif. (April 6, 2010) - Secession Art & Design invites you to a spring showing of new work by art and design talents hailing from the Bay Area and beyond. Continuing the gallery boutique’s ongoing exploration of fashion and design from independent, street, vintage, eco-friendly and craft vantage points, the exhibition promises a diverse collection of forward-looking fine art, home wares, apparel, children’s clothing and jewelry inspired by San Francisco’s streets. Bright hues worthy of the season. “Urban walks, spontaneity and spring are bringing the outdoors in at Secession Art & Design. This show features art that plays with the unexpected and tells a story through imagery and texture, as well as wearable art designed by independent companies that will make your look, or home unique and innovative,” says gallery owner-curator Eden Stein. For the first time ever at the gallery, a Designer Trunk Show on Friday, April 16 12-6p offers a chance to meet out-of-town designers Kelly Lane of Pittsburgh, Penn., and Bridge & Burn of Portland, Ore. Designer discounts will be available on past seasons. Jam tasting courtesy of Inna Pickle Inna Jam from 4-6 p.m. lets you taste test the fruity concoctions of this local company, known for eco-friendly deliveries by bicycle. An opening reception follows with wine, cupcakes by Cynically Delicious and vinyl spinning by DJ 3POP 6:30-9:30p. The show’s featured artists, Julie Michelle and Alex Garcia, present works that take the everyday and give them new life as insightful works of art. Sourced from Michelle’s frequent photography walks in San Francisco, images of the unexpected and unseen corners create a kaleidoscopic urban landscape that highlights the solitude, loneliness, and bustling pulse of San Francisco. Garcia transforms salvaged wood and reclaimed materials into boldly-textured, modern vibrant collages whose orderly color blocking is offset by bright hues and rustic elements. Joining the featured artists’ works in the front gallery are landscapes and imagery mounted on diminutive photo blocks by Lisa Coris. Wearable art and accessories abound in the ever-popular Secession boutique. Highlights include the brightly-colored women’s eco-apparel of Kelly Lane, tailored men’s jackets in classic cuts from Bridge & Burn, handmade retro-inspired dresses with modern sensibilities by Lemon Twist, children’s clothing made of vintage linens by Fang Apparel, upcycled fine jewelry by Josie Adele, and contemporary art jewelry by Kathleen Maley. Also featured in our gallery and boutique: Art by Bug House, Nate1, Brian Schuck, and Hilary Williams. Clothing by Ava Love, De Novo, Field Day, Minor, Nicacelly, Rebe, Threads by Cho-Cho. Jewelry by Lady Bird SF, Orange Slice, and The Weekend Store. Soaps and poems by Roman Ruby and The Poetry Store. Along with the featured artists and designers, the gallery boutique houses current collections from Secession Art & Design in-house designers Colleen Mauer, Heather Robinson, New Skool and Twelve Designs: Modern Vintage Jewelry. A portion of the proceeds from the show benefits Streetside Stories (www.streetside.org).
