| Secession Art and Design Winter 2009
Show: Dec. 1, 2009 - Jan. 30, 2010 | Opening Reception: Friday Dec. 18, 6:30-9:30PM Mission/Bernal Heights’ gallery boutique announces winter show and holiday party on Dec. 18 San Francisco, Calif. (Dec. 8, 2009) - Secession Art & Design invites you to a winter showing of work sure to be the cure for the madness of the holidays: new works from artists Bug House and Hilary Williams, a holiday party on Friday December 18, 6:30-9:30pm, Christmas Eve hours of 10am-7pm for last-minute shopping needs, and countless unique gifts in the Secession boutique - all part of the gallery boutique's ongoing exploration of fashion and design from craft, vintage, independent and street vantage points. "Our gallery and boutique is filled with imagination and unique gifts for those who make your day. The walls are lined with art that will start a conversation, make you laugh and reminisce. Stand out this season, and make Secession a destination," says gallery owner-curator and designer Eden Stein. A holiday party on Friday, Dec. 18, 6:30-9:30pm, offers a chance to meet designers, mingle with likeminded fans of local and independent design and - of course - pick up something fabulous for anyone on your gift list. The show's featured artists, Bug House and Hilary Williams, present works that take everyday images and give them new life as stunning works of art. Using three-dimensional representations of old school cassettes, vinyl albums and stereo equipment, L.A.-based Bug House transforms classic images from music's past into iconic works in hisWall of Sounds music series. Giclee on canvas works, prints and resin tables rely on hundreds of nostalgia-inducing vinyl album spines and cassette covers for their graphic interest, while a life-size heat transfer on wood of turntables will make any fan of DJ-produced sound swoon. Displaying a series of her ever-popular prints and new original paintings, prolific San Francisco artist Hilary Williams brings her multi-layered depictions of the urban landscape back to the gallery space. The surreal, yet ultimately familiar worlds she creates with images plucked from city streets, animals and nature highlight the presence of the ever-shifting physical, temporal and emotional landscapes in which we all live. Wearable art and accessories abound in the ever-popular Secession boutique. Highlights include the eco-friendly and handmade men's and women's apparel of Field Day Wearables, new styles from Nous Savons ranging from reconstructed vests and shirts to unique lapel necklaces and neck warmers, hand screen-printed and eco-friendly fabric and pillows by Swanky Swell, a collection of coats by De Novo featuring tailored silhouettes with a modern edge, the eco-friendly and casually feminine apparel of Rebe, the vintage and Lucite jewelry of Cara Lyndon, carved wood jewelry by Orange Slice and additional apparel and accessories from Ava Love, Hilside Bags, Kelly Lane, Nicacelly, Threads by Cho-Cho, and Venn Apparel. Along with the featured artists and designers, the gallery boutique houses current collections from Secession Art & Design in-house designers Colleen Mauer, Heather Robinson, New Skool and Twelve Designs: Modern Vintage Jewelry. A portion of the proceeds from the show benefits Streetside Stories (www.streetside.org).
