| Direct Diversions at Secession Art & Design Show: Aug. 4 -Sept. 26, 2009 | 2nd Anniversary Party: August 14, 6:30-9:30PM Mission/Bernal Heights' gallery boutique celebrates two years! San Francisco, Calif. (August 7, 2009) - Secession Art & Design invites you to celebrate the gallery’s second anniversary alongside new art, accessories and fashion created by Bay Area talents. Continuing the gallery boutique’s ongoing exploration of design from independent, street, vintage and craft vantage points, the event presents yet another new interpretation of the modern urban experience with its diverse collection of fine art, home wares, apparel and jewelry. “Everyday parts of life in the city take on new meaning when we examine the ways our neighborhoods are connected and how we get from place to place. Walks, daily commutes and public transportation become art when our imaginations take hold of them,” says owner-curator and designer Eden Stein. In the gallery, featured artists Nate1 and Ursula Xanthe Young present works depicting familiar San Francisco street scenes in unfamiliar ways. Using graffiti techniques and a mixture of acrylic and spray paints, the latest series of works on canvas from Nate1 (a.k.a. Nate Tan) transforms city streets, Muni trains and street lights into movement-rich paintings resembling nighttime motion photography. Young’s highly-accessible, fine-lined illustrations and colorful paintings translate imagery from the surrounding cityscape into visual urban fairy tales that have become a trademark of street culture in San Francisco and beyond. Wearable art and accessories abound in the ever-popular Secession boutique. Highlights include go-anywhere wearables from San Francisco label ISSO, the hand-cut leather jewelry of Taryn McCabe, deconstructed little girl’s clothing with modern sensibilities by Minor and additional apparel and accessories from AvaLove, Josie Adele, Nicacelly and Yugula Priti. Along with the featured artists and designers, the gallery boutique always houses current collections from Secession Art & Design in-house designers Colleen Mauer, Heather Robinson, New Skool and Twelve Designs: Modern Vintage Jewelry. A portion of the proceeds from the show benefits Streetside Stories (www.streetside.org).
