I grew up in the Midwest in a working class family where art was a foreign language. And, as if making up for lost time, there is almost no place I’d rather be than in my studio, painting. Encaustics is an ancient painting technique consisting of beeswax, dammar varnish, and pigment. I find working with this medium wildly challenging and exciting and I continue to experiment with technique and subject matter. This series, I am reminded of the flourishing natural world that exists in my city - a balance that keeps me alive as an artist.

My love for urban and natural settings set the stage for ordinary people to become supporting actors that are skillfully woven into spacious and dramatic horizons. Breathing life into still images by exploring everyday scenes from my unique perspective, depicting a world that is playful and full of vibrant color.

Bughouse
Jeff Bughouses' Wall Of Sounds Music Series subverts the expectations placed on these commonplace objects by presenting them as both historical documents and visual abstractions. The three dimensional representations of albums and dj equipment thwart their 'official' categories as equipment and musical formats and places them squarely within our everyday lives as functional objects.
